Basic tiles - to yet another level

I am discovering more that can be done with the Basic Tiles from LD (on sale for $10 right now). There are 100 different tiles - the picture below shows less than half of those available.
You can use PSE to change the colors (as demonstrated in this post) but you can also use just MTC to come up with some changes if you are willing to play around a bit.

It is hard to imagine that you can change the tile on the left to the one on the right in MTC - but you can! Here are the screen shots of the changes that were made.
I also rotated the tiles and resized them. Be sure to play around and see what you can come up with.

I saw this darling card on the Twinery Blog Hop (see the original here) and thought I could re-create it. My take is not perfect but I like it. I used the above tiles in the card and then made my own bee (from Basic Shapes in MTC), honeycomb (from the hexagon shape), and the scalloped circle (using circles and wrap to path).  Here is the result.
I also changed the card to make it a side open. I can share the MTC file but you will still need to pick up the Basic Tiles set (or make your own) in order to replicate the above textures. Download the MTC file here or on box.net.

Michaels coupon - 45% off Copics and other markers

This is a great deal - it is off your entire purchase of markers, not just one. Copics are $6.99 at my Ms, this makes them $3.85 each! A great deal!
Also the regular coupon.
Thanks for visiting - happy shopping!

Dollar Tree deal - markers for the Silhouette

I purchased these fat markers at the Dollar Tree (brand Jot, distributed by Greenbrier International, Inc, which is the store brand). These fit perfectly in the Silhouette!
You will notice that I marked them with a piece of masking tape? This is to mark how far to insert them into the holder - the tape acts as a "stop" to keep them at the perfect height. These were easy to fit into the holder and made great marks on the paper. The green one was used to make the green flower in the lower right (with the arrows pointing at it), and the blue marker made the blue flower above its cap.

The smaller chubby markers here (in the middle, the yellow and green that are together) were "Spiderman" markers from the Dollar Spot at Target. They were just a smidge too thin to fit well into the holder, I had to place a strip of masking tape at the top of the marker by the cap so that the holder could grip it. And then a double thick piece of masking tape to act as a stop. Although these were a little more work, the colors are more vibrant, and there were 10 colors for $1.
The Spiderman markers also allowed me to make both a thick and thin line - depending on how far down the marker was into the holder. Notice the thin brown flower (one arrow) vs. the thick brown flower (two arrows). Thick was easy - just push it down until it touched and tighten. But the thin took a lot of taping and testing to get it to mark thin enough. So I have 2 sets of these - on taped for thin and one taped for thick. You can also see in this picture the difference in the tips of the markers. The Jot markers look a little like Crayola markers. Hmmm, I wonder if the fat Crayola markers would fit in the Silhouette holder?....I have some around here somewhere, I'll have to check it out!  ETA: No, they do not fit, they are just a little too thick. Too bad!

If you do purchase the Dollar Tree markers, the tape goes exactly 15/32" from the part of the marker that widens out from the tip. Tape one, test it, and if it works, use it as a guide to tape off the others. Just lay them next to each other and tape using the first one as a guide. Have fun!

Oh yeah, I did not get around to publishing the Two for Tuesday deal at LD yesterday - it is the Cutie Patootie Boy Bundle. A great price on a cute set (image is linked).

Basic Tiles - not so basic!

Have you considered the Basic Tiles set from Lettering Delights? They may look basic, but there is so much that you can do with them.
There are over 100 different designs in this set (not all are in the above clip) and the ability to make so many more. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

You can change this file........................................................into this file with just a little effort in PSE.
I place the different elements on different layers so I can recolor later if I desire. Want to change those flowers to blue? No problem! Just open the psd file, make your changes, and then save to png for use in MTC.

So check out the Basic Tiles set (don't forget to use a coupon), on sale now at less than .0.10 each!

Mini Composition Book - altered

Have you seen the cute little notebooks that look like mini Composition books?
I picked mine up at the Dollar Tree, 3 for $1. Others report finding them at Staples (2/$1) or JoAnn's (4/$1). They are small enough to drop into a purse and take up hardly any room.
Mine are 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 but the sizes do vary some.
I designed a simple file in MTC to cut the paper to cover these.
I used the flowers from this post. On a side note: the link in this post has been fixed. Pogoplug changed their interface and for some reason I can no longer link to my files (it is still supposed to work but it does not for me) so I am back to using box.net.
I included a cut-out for a book mark for this book as well. I did have some trouble with getting the bookmark to cut, so just delete ii if does not work for you. The MTC file for this project is here.

Flower Cut-outs - free file and texture

As promised, here are the flower cut-outs that I posted about yesterday. I did cut these out (yellow blade, at force of 15 for 24# printer paper) and they cut out without any problems (other than my mat was a bit too sticky - I had just sprayed it, lol!).
I think my favorite one is the 12 petal (with the dark pink middle). I placed bling in the center because I had some handy but you could use another circle, a brad or even a button. I think the one pointy shape (4th one from the left below) would look great as a sun.
Enjoy crafting and as always I would love to see any projects you make with these. Download the file by clicking here or on the image below. The yellow dotted texture is embedded in the file.

Sale at DigiWeb Studio!

Be sure to check them out and do not forget the COUPON CODE  dwsjuly25

Thank you to all....

...who used my link for ordering Lettering Delights graphics while they had the Clearance Sale (now over, so sad). I hope you were able to get some great deals before they cleared them out. I appreciate it when you use my link and in gratitude I am working on some free files for you!

Sneak peek - I am working on these cut-out flower files for you...hope to have them here within a couple days. I would like to cut them out myself first to verify that the design is done well before posting them.
I have a YouTube video on how to make them if you want to try your hand at them as well.  BTW, it is best viewed full screen so you may want to view it at YouTube. And video only (no audio).
